Petra
Petra is a prehistoric city in southern Jordan. It was carved out of red sandstone by ancient Nabateans some 2,000 years ago, the reason it is also called the "Red Rose City." Petra is renowned for its rock-cut architecture and intricate conduit system. It is an important symbol of Jordan and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting over a million visitors each year.
A walk through a narrow gorge called the Siq leads you into Petra and culminates at the Treasury (Al-Khazneh) ruin, one of the city's most elaborate tombs. Explore the High Palace of Sacrifice, an excellent place for hiking and enjoying a view of the surrounding area. Visit the monastery (Ad Deir) and take a trip to the royal tombs. Also spend time at the Petra Archeological Museum to see the display of artifacts discovered in the city.
